For many of us, ChatGPT has become a go-to tool in our daily workflow. Whether we’re brainstorming content, writing emails, planning launches, or just staying organized, without a doubt it’s the one open tab we keep coming back to.
And yes, the free version still offers a lot. Now powered by GPT-5-mini, it can help with writing, content planning, basic research, and even image creation with DALL-E. But GPT-5 brings a huge leap forward, handling much longer conversations, thinking through complex problems more accurately, and working with text, images, audio, and video in a more natural way.
With all these updates, you might be asking yourself:
Is ChatGPT Plus actually worth paying for?
First, let’s break down the options.
Free vs. Plus vs. Pro – What’s the Difference?

For most creators, freelancers, and digital entrepreneurs, Plus is more than enough.
Now, here is how I personally use ChatGPT Plus to grow my business:
1. Image + Content Creation That Scales
I use ChatGPT Plus every day to write content
- Product descriptions
- Sales pages
- Lead magnets descriptions
But what makes it really worth it is the image generation power.
On the Free plan, image generation is limited and slower, you only get a few uses, and features may be restricted or queued. With ChatGPT Plus, you get faster access, higher quality images, and more generation credits, making it much more practical for regular or professional use.
With Plus, I can quickly create:
- Pinterest graphics
- Instagram promo images
- Custom mockups
Since images are so great, I’ve built entire mockup packs using AI-generated images, which I now either sell or use to promote my own digital products. They’re clean, unique, and totally on brand.
I have a training about that here.
That said, there are still a few quirks when it comes to creating images with the Free or Plus plan. If you’ve ever wondered where those images go, check out my blog post: Where to Find Your ChatGPT Images: A Simple Guide for Creators.
2. Creating Custom GPTs for My Business
With ChatGPT Plus, you can build your own custom GPTs, basically AI assistants that do very specific tasks for your business.
A custom GPT is like your own personalized version of ChatGPT. You can train it to understand your voice, follow specific instructions, or specialize in certain topics. Think of it as a mini virtual assistant designed to do exactly what you want.
Since there is a fill-out form to do this, you can create one without any coding. Just tell ChatGPT what you want it to do, upload any helpful files (like PDFs or spreadsheets), and give it a name.
Once built, your GPT can work for you, and you can even share or sell it to others!
For instance, here are a few I’ve created:
- A GPT that writes content in my voice
- One that builds out niche-specific workbooks
- A GPT to improve my blog posts following SEO and AI Visibility guidelines
- Another that generates full sales pages using a structure I uploaded
- A meal-planning assistant that helps plan meals with what I have in the fridge (yes, this is biz-related if it saves me time!)
You can upload multiple files like PDFs, spreadsheets, or guides, and your GPT can pull info from all of them. Therefore, it’s incredibly useful for anything from content creation to marketing and promotion.
What happens to GPTs you built before ChatGPT 5?
They’ll still work exactly as before, only better. Any GPT you created with an earlier model now runs on the best model available to the person using it. Your GPT’s instructions and files are stored separately from the model itself, so nothing gets lost in the switch. If you built it in GPT-4 and a Plus user opens it today, it will run on GPT-5 automatically. If a free user opens it, ChatGPT will simply use the best version they have access to, like GPT-5-mini, while still following your original instructions. This way, your GPTs keep working for everyone, but advanced GPT-5 perks like deeper reasoning or longer context are unlocked for those on higher tiers.
And now, GPT-5 includes Agents, which take it even further. Agents are like next-level GPTs that can live inside “projects,” manage ongoing “tasks,” and remember context between sessions.
3. Selling Custom GPTs as Digital Products (or Lead Magnets!)
One of my favorite things right now? Selling GPTs as digital products.
Since you can create and share your GPTs with others, that means that you can:
- Sell them like digital products (People are selling them for $27, $47, and even $197+)
- Use them as lead magnets
- Add them to products that you already have like courses or trainings to increase their value
Custom GPTs are quickly becoming a popular type of digital product, and it’s easy to see why. They give people fast, useful results without much effort, which makes them super appealing. In fact, we are starting to see GPT shops!
The best part? Once you’ve created one, it can continue to bring in sales with very little effort. You don’t have to constantly update or manage it, just set it up, and it keeps offering value and generating income in the background.
Plus, if trained well, a GPT can actually introduce your offers inside the conversation. That means it can sell for you on autopilot.
I even created a training to teach how to do this, check this: Create you AI Sales Buddy.
4. Deep Research
Deep Research is an advanced feature that lets ChatGPT search the internet more thoroughly than a regular query. It’s designed to go beyond simple answers and give you richer, more accurate information pulled from real-time online sources.
With the free version, you get up to 5 lightweight deep‑search tasks per month. With Plus, you get 10 full‑model queries and another 15 lightweight ones. Pro users get even more.
More info here.
This feature alone has helped me identify profitable digital product ideas.
When it comes to growing your business, Deep Research (available with limited use in the Plus plan) can help you:
-
Spot emerging trends early
-
Analyze real demand
-
Identify underserved markets
-
Find content gaps in your niche
…and so much more!
For example, you might ask:
“Help me find a profitable, low-competition niche in [describe your niche]. Look for trends, underserved audiences, and unmet product demand. My ideal audience is [describe your audience].”
5. Create Short Videos with Sora
Sora is a great tool that comes with Plus, and it lets you create videos from just a text prompt.
In addition, with Sora, you can go beyond video generation and actually edit AI-created clips. For instance, these are some key features you get:
-
Re‑cut: Trim your video or extend specific scenes to refine pacing.
-
Remix: Change elements—like backgrounds or color schemes—while keeping the core intact.
-
Blend: Merge two different video clips into one seamless composition.
-
Loop: Create seamless repetitions for backgrounds or stylized effects.
-
Storyboard: Arrange text or image prompts along a timeline to control how your story unfolds
For example, you can use it to create short Instagram Reels, video ads, or engaging social content. Plus, you can combine multiple clips and arrange your text to build dynamic video stories. Just type a short text describing your video, and boom! A 5-second video is generated. No filming, no editing.
Keep in mind that your video will include a watermark, as shown in the example below. Only Pro users can export videos without it. However, I don’t find the watermark too noticeable, and if needed, there are always simple ways to remove or hide it.
Here is an example
Prompt:
“Create a split-screen video. Left side: A woman sitting at a desk, overwhelmed and stressed, typing quickly on her computer, surrounded by clutter or notes. Right side: A confident woman smiling and relaxed, holding her mobile phone with a winning attitude, possibly in a clean, calm space. She looks successful and in control. Use realistic lighting and everyday work-from-home backgrounds. The contrast should highlight stress vs. ease and confidence.”

6. Advanced Conversation Mode: My AI Content Coach
This is a hidden gem. If you’re someone who thinks out loud or works better by talking through ideas, this feature is going to feel like magic. With the paid version, I can speak directly to ChatGPT in voice mode. It listens in real time, transcribes what I say, organizes the content, and even improves the clarity and structure.
It’s like having a personal writing coach who helps you express yourself more clearly and naturally, even when you’re just rambling your thoughts out loud. I especially turn to this tool when I’m drafting outlines, developing course content, or capturing spontaneous ideas while juggling other tasks.
For instance, here’s what I use it for:
- Course scripts
- Tutorials
- Talking points for content
- Explaining frameworks I want to teach
As an example, here is how I use it when creating a training:
When I’m about to record a video, like a walkthrough using a tool, I think through the process and talk it out.
At the same time, I use ChatGPT in Advanced Voice Mode to say:
“I’m going to describe a video I want to create for a training. Please listen, then turn what I say into a clean, structured script. Feel free to improve the flow, add clarity where needed, and make sure the sequence makes sense for viewers. Let me know if something is unclear or needs expansion.”
And just like that, ChatGPT turns your thoughts into a polished script. In the end, you’re left with a clean, clear, and ready-to-go transcript—done in just minutes!
To activate Advanced Voice Mode in the ChatGPT, tap the icon with four vertical lines. This opens the voice interface. Wait for the screen to change to a new window where you’ll see a moving circle or waveform indicating it’s listening. Once it’s active, just start speaking, ChatGPT will respond in real time with a natural-sounding voice that you can even customize!
Conclusion
Is ChatGPT Plus Worth It?
If you’re a business owner, whether you create digital products, coach clients, offer services, or teach, then yes, it’s absolutely worth it.
For just $20/month, you get:
-
Smart tools that save you hours
-
Faster, more polished content creation
-
The ability to build and sell your own GPTs
-
Powerful research features that help you create what people are actually looking for
This one upgrade has helped me work faster, sell more, and produce better content overall.
That said, the free version still gives you a chance to explore some of these features, like image creation, Deep Research, and even Advanced Voice Mode (with a few limits).
You’ll also get limited access to GPT-5, so you can test things out before upgrading.
Once you’ve tried it, you’ll have a better sense of whether the full upgrade is the right move for you.
FAQs
Do I need Pro or is Plus enough?
Unless you’re doing heavy automation or technical work, Plus is more than enough for most small business owners and creators.
Can I make money selling GPTs?
You can list and sell your own GPTs. While I can’t promise how much you’ll earn, just like with any digital product, they’re a powerful way to offer value and even promote your other products. Many digital sellers are already adding GPTs to their shops or websites as a new stream of passive income.
What makes GPT-5 better than previous versions?
GPT-5 is smarter, faster, and more accurate, with a much longer memory (up to ~1M tokens) and stronger reasoning skills. It works more naturally with text, images, audio, and video, and introduces Agents—AI assistants that can manage projects, track tasks, and remember context between sessions
Are there limits on image creation or GPT-5 usage with Plus?
Yes. Plus gives you access to the full GPT-5 model, but there are daily usage limits to ensure performance for all users. Image creation with DALL·E is also limited to a set number of generations per day. These limits reset every 24 hours, and most creators find them more than enough for regular business use. More info here.
Can I use ChatGPT Plus for free as a student?
There is a promotion for students, more info here: https://help.openai.com/en/articles/10968654-student-discounts-for-chatgpt-plus-uscanada
I’ll do my best to keep this post updated! ChatGPT has made several changes recently, including adjustments to limits in the free plan. If you have any new updates, I’d love to hear from you—feel free to send me an email at hello@cloudtifulbiz.com.
